Here is the final image, created on the Minecraft computer game rather than xbox. It is also interactive.
I was interested at first in pixel art, and the relationship between real and fabricated worlds. I really wanted to emphasize how complex and immersive this game can be despite its trademark simple graphics.

Okay so here are some progress shots. I have two skylands (ha. ha.) so far and that weird thing between them in the distance is going to be a mountain. There will be more skylands, and I'm going to play with collaging the images together. I will also be photoshopping them a bit so they aren't just raw screenshots from the game.
I didn't make the ground below but I did want to include it to create depth and interest.
I think that something that would make this more interesting is if you created a bridge between the two skylands. Having a lot of these different formations in the sky connected would be pretty cool, like a sky tree house village.
ReplyDeleteI think this is a great demonstration of art in video games. What exactly are you going to do in photoshop? Anything too extreme may distract from the landscape that is already present. So be careful with that. I really enjoy this idea and look forward to the finished result.
ReplyDeletei think what would make this really interesting is if the viewer can actually explore the world you've created. Maybe in addition to a really cool still image, you could let people actually play with the game and move around in it. like "Hey look at this really awesome, super cool landscape! Don't you wish it were real and you could be in it? YOU CAN!"
ReplyDeleteI love this idea. Mine-craft landscapes are hard to do and even harder to look beautiful. So I commend you for that. What I think is quite cool is the transit from day to night. Maybe have it as a video of a moving camera progressing around the skylands while they change from day to night. I think this could really bring out the beauty of this world you have created. Just an idea. Also what Sam said about the interlinking houses sounds really cool, like some sort of sky town. Anyway I think this is an interesting idea and I can't wait to see how it turns out
