I'm digging the cats on cats on cats. It's funny and creepy at the same time. Check out my friend Carl Vestweber. http://carlvestweber.com He only has a couple on his website, but this summer he made a ton of cat collages that had the same sort of vibe you've got going. I'll see if I can find any more of them floating around on Facebook for ya... He had a lot of stuff where he gave people cat heads, then had them playing with cats. Real weird.
As far as the image goes... maybe try out putting a simple cat wallpaper on the white wall behind Crazy Mr. Cat? Just to see what happens since it's plain white now.
He also seems to be floating, but just a tiny bit? It seems like he should either REALLY be floating in the air, or else placed firmly on the ground. But maybe the in-between makes it seem more unsettling, which is maybe a good thing? Depends what you're going for.
What about a tail? I feel like I really want to see a tail in there somewhere. or maybe a bunch of little tails.
The more I look at this the more I like it though.
First time I saw this I laughed. I have seen a lot of digital collage and a lot of "bad" digital collage but still this made me laugh. So why is it funny? Maybe because it makes fun of two things: our love of cats (cuteness) and the photo collage genre. It is using hyperbole so maybe Rachel is right and you should go even further with it. More cats, more tails, fill up the background. It is "badly" done: the cat is floating, the colors aren't corrected, the cat heads are all piled up like stickers on a flat image of a cat. What would it mean if it were well done? Would it still be funny?
This is like a dream for me. I really like whatever sort of crazy idea you have going on here. I feel like it's something I would see as like a pillow on a crazy cat lady's couch or some majestic print above her fireplace. The big cat has a sense of regality to him/her and it feels like all the cats that make him up are like his loyal followers. I enjoy how you didn't just blend all the colors together and make it one color scheme. I think the fact that the colors are all over the place plays into the piece well and makes the collage usage even more effective.
I would agree with Rachel and say that the big cat looks like he is floating, maybe because of the shadow underneath him on the right? Either way, he does see to be hovering so you might want to look into that. (Unless the whole idea is that he is hover cat..) Also, maybe your collaging of the cats could be done in a way that still mimics the shape of the big cat. I'm still really diggin the whole idea though. But I don't quite agree with Rachel on the background. I kinda like how he is. Maybe like a natural background might be more fitting. But I think it looks good as is.
