Dude, it looks awesome! You shouldn't be so worried. I especially like the first one. I think that the composition in this piece in particular is really great and creates a lot of drama and gives it a more emotional feeling. I think the ones where the generational difference is subtle, like in the first bike one, are really cool because you can more easily draw parallels between the two images and it unifies the final product. I say keep experimenting to get combos as powerful as that first picture. But super cool, I really do like it a lot.
Some are much better than others-- so this might just be a matter of editing out those that aren't working. Both of the bike ones are working (I can suggest some little edits.). I'm into the runners and football-- so maybe it's only the high jump that needs to be scrapped from these. I am interested in the differences between the gear past/present and the facial expressions of the athletes.
I think these are great, and are coming out even funnier than I expected. I think the biking second biking one is my favorite because the older guy is so well integrated into the picture--not just good editing on your part, but way to find a picture with the perfect facial expression/body language/etc. I wish the first picture, with the women on the track, where a little more shockingly out of place--it could be more comical and (perhaps) still just as cohesive looking, with a couple more anachronistic items in the background.
At first I was not sure what had been done to some of the photographs. Upon further examination it became clear that certain people were very out of place. I really enjoy that they are all in black and white and how the old and new images are blended together. A problem I do see in a few of these photos is that the pixelations on a few of the added images differs from the actual image. This is distracting and doesn't allow the image to blend well. I really do enjoy the idea you have pursued and once you fix them up the project should be great.
